Asenova krepost is an archaeological site with centuries of history. The most enchanting place, preserved until today, is the “Sveta Bogoroditsa Petrichka” Church, dating from 13th century. Founded in 11th century and with a major role during the years, today the Bachkovo Monastery is the second biggest and most significant monastery in Bulgaria. There are three churches within the monastery, a charnel-house and a refectory. In the main temple is kept one of the miraculous icons of the Virgin.
