Pomorie - Bulgaria Pomorie - Bulgaria Pomorie - Bulgaria Pomorie - Bulgaria
Pomorie is among the prettiest seaside towns, an attractive resort and health centre. The beach line is 18 700 sq.m., about 7 km long with rich ferriferous sand and it is surrounding the Pomorie Bay. Here the term “away from the beach and the sea” does not exist because they are part of the vivid town atmosphere and that makes it an attractive place for the tourists. Pomorie is said to be the biggest healing mud resort in Bulgaria. It is one of the most preferred summer holiday destinations. Pomorie offers modern infrastructure and cosy hotels with friendly attitude. The guests of the resort town may enjoy nice restaurants, discotheques and bars.
Pomorie is especially favourable for family and individual tourism.

The town was founded as a Greek colony called Anhialo in the end of 5th century. Most of the town's residents were Thracians. From its establishment till the beginning of last century it has been one of the most important Black Sea towns of Bulgaria.
The town's most flourishing period is during the Roman domination when it becomes bishop's centre with its own minted coins. Since that time (3-4 c. AC) it has been a Thracian domed tomb – heroon (or heroum), found in the surroundings of present-day Pomorie.
In 9th century Anhialo is on Bulgarian territory for the first time. A little later (in 917) King Simeon Veliki defeats in a historical battle around Aheloy River the Byzantine army. Subsequently Anhialo often passes from  Bulgarian onto Byzantine territory and vice versa.
Pomorie (Anhialo) has been destined to be often burnt and destroyed. It has been destroyed by Goths, Avars; disastrous fires and natural disasters, so there's few preserved old houses despite its centuries-long history.
On July 30, 1906 the big Greek town is burnt down and completely destroyed for one last time in response to the Greek andartes massacre in the village of Zagorichani when most of its citizens were forced to move to Greece where they founded the settlements Nea Anchialos, Anchialos and Evksinupolis.

On the outbreak of the First Balkan War in 1912 five Anhialo citizens became volunteers in the Macedonian-Adrianopolitan Volunteer Corps. In 1934 the ancient town of Anhialo was renamed Pomorie.

The climate is Mediterranean type – mild and warm winter, long autumn appropriate for sea holiday, and summer with not very high average temperature allowing longer sun-bathing on the beach. The summer heat is more tolerable than in the country because of the sea breeze.
Here you will enjoy more than 8 hours sunshine which makes Pomorie's region one of the sunniest in Bulgaria. The temperature rarely exceeds 30°C – in July and August the average temperature is 28°C. The average sea water temperature in July and August is 23°C, there are no big temperature amplitude changes.
The light sea breeze in the late afternoon makes the air fresher and the nights – cool.

Pomorie resort offers favourable natural, health and balneological resources combined with sea recreation tourism as specialized round trips and cognitive routes.
Pomorie combines new buildings with natural sites, especially in the old town. The beach line merges with “Kraybrezhna” St. Hotels, restaurants and bars, peredstrian alleys and summer theatre are all built on seaside rocks overhanging the sea, the seaside alley is along the sea surf. The sea is visually part of the pedestrian zone and the buildings on “Yavorov” Blvd.
The sea temperature is moderate. The average temperature from May until September is about 21º ?. The water is nice for bathing till October which makes the summer season longer. The abundance of fresh vegetables and fruits at that time of the year not only satisfies the tourists' needs but benefits alternative tourism services.
The beach line is covered with fine sand, in many places almost black because of its rich content of iron, manganese, aluminium and magnesium. It absorbs the sun beams and heats quickly and vastly.  The sea bottom in front of the beach is slanting and almost even.

Pomorie is located in a narrow cliff peninsula, jutting out 3,5 km into the sea. The town is in 20 km from Bourgas, 8 km from Bourgas Airport, 18 km from Sunny Beach and 14 km from Kableshkovo.
Other towns and settlements in the region:
