If a student is sick in school Students not feeling well she should see the Nurse first for assessment. If necessary, you will be notified to pick your daughter up if she is not able to stay in school for the remainder of the day. Under no circumstances should a student call, text or email their parent/guardian to pick them up from school. Doing so will result in detention.

There are no state requirements for Sophomores, however, all medications and athletic sign-ups will require an updated Authorization for Administration of Medication in School form and an updated NYS Health Examination form. All seniors must provide proof from your physician of having received the 2nd dose of the meningococcal vaccine, (MenACWY/MCV4), in order to start school. 2024-2025 Student Health Packet Important Medication Information for ALL students
Prescription medications and over-the counter medications such as Tylenol, Motrin, Advil, Benadryl and Tums that are to be given out during the school day by the school nurse require an updated Authorization for Administration of Medication in School Form to be filled out by a parent/guardian and signed by a physician as well as a physician’s order. Hard copies of these forms must be turned in to the Health Office. New/updated forms are required from year to year.
All students who carry their own EpiPens, inhalers, and diabetic medications, are required to have a new Self Medication Authorization Form that is filled out by a parent/guardian and signed by a physician. New/updated forms are required from year to year. Please upload this completed form to FamilyID. Each student who is permitted medication should have an emergency care plan in file with the Health Office. Further, the school will maintain a record of all written parental consents on the student’s cumulative health record. For students with carry/self-medication orders, it is the responsibility of the prescribing practitioner to determine the student’s ability to be “self-directed”. School health office personnel will also maintain regular parental contact in order to monitor the effectiveness of the self-medication procedures and to clarify parental responsibility as to the daily monitoring of their child to ensure that the medication is being utilized in accordance with the physician or provider’s instructions. Additionally, the student will report to the health office on a periodic basis as determined by health office personnel to maintain an ongoing evaluation of the student’s management of self-medication techniques, and to work cooperatively with the parents and the student regarding self-medication. Students who self-administer medication without proper authorization will be referred for counseling by health office personnel as appropriate. Additionally, school administration and parents will be notified of such unauthorized use of medication by the student and school administration may determine the proper resolution of this behavior. Under no circumstances will students be permitted to carry and self-administer any medications classified as controlled substances by the US Drug Enforcement Administration. School Screening Vision & hearing screening for 11th graders will begin in October. You will receive a referral letter to have your daughter re-screened by your own doctor only if there are any changes. Referral forms should be returned to the Health Office once completed by your doctor. |
