Dear Tiger Fans,
On behalf of our coaches, staff and student-athletes, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Maria Regina Athletic Program; home of the “Tigers” and our Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) Conference Junior Varsity and Varsity interscholastic sports teams. As Athletic Director, I am delighted to be a part of the growth and development of the school’s athletic traditions which I consider to be an important part of the total educational experience. It is my personal belief that if you do not have fun while playing, your true talent will not have the opportunity to shine. Our girls play sports because they love the game and who they are while on the court or field. At an early point of each season, our teams turn into “families,” and that is why more than 30% of the MRHS student body participates in its athletic programs. Together the girls learn important life-lessons such as teamwork, self-discipline and courage. Together, the girls commit to a rigorous practice schedule that includes skill improvement and body conditioning exercises. As part of its long-standing commitment to academic excellence, each young woman is expected to succeed on and off the court by maintaining the same challenging course load as their classmates. Among its CHSAA counterparts, Maria Regina School is considered extremely fortunate to have had the luxury to be the home of countless successful seasons. And, we look forward to more. Situated on an expansive campus, its back field serves as both a soccer and softball field, and our gym has hosted many winning basketball and volleyball competitions. Thanks to its central location, tennis courts are within a five minute drive (compliments of our MRHS Blue Bus), the Cross Country team travels to historic Van Cortlandt Park, and our award winning cheerleading squad competes on both local and national levels. I encourage every student to get involved in the many activities – both extracurricular and athletic - offered at Maria Regina - you, your family, your teammates, your coaches, and the Maria Regina Community will benefit immensely. My very best to you as you begin your high school athletic journey!
Sincerely, Liz Pugsley Athletic Director Athletic Director |
